SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – June XX, 2014 – After 25 years as one of the foremost hotspots and entertainment venues in Puerto Rico, El San Juan Resort & Casino, A Hilton Hotel pops the cork again on a festive Labor Day weekend celebration with Veuve Clicquot. From a five-course champagne dinner and daily champagne breakfast to a poolside fashion show and sets from international DJs, the three-night Veuve Clicquot Labor Day Weekend Experience package is the perfect toast to bid adieu to the summer.

 

The Friday to Monday celebration begins upon arrival to El San Juan Resort & Casino with a Veuve Clicquot champagne welcome and, on Friday evening, a five-course dinner with champagne pairings.  Accompanied by music from the Puerto Rico Philharmonic Orchestra, cuisine will be presented by Celebrity Chef Ricardo Lapeyre of the acclaimed Laguiole restaurant in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Each course from Chef Lapeyre will be paired with a different Veuve Clicquot varietal, including the Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow Label, Veuve Clicquot Rosé, La Grande Dame and VC Demi Sec

 

Over the weekend, mornings are complete with champagne buffet breakfasts and afternoons are spent best lounging at the resort’s newly renovated Encanto Beach Club and Fantasy Pool.  Throughout the weekend, renowned DJ Ivan Robles, who performs in some of the top music destinations in the world such as Ibiza, New York and Miami, and Gera, one of Puerto Rico’s top female underground electronic DJs, will spin the beats that promise to keep the party going while guests can opt to visit a pop-up Champagne Garden or the exclusive Veuve Clicquot Airstream lounge. In addition, on Saturday afternoon, the Splash and Flash Fashion Show will showcase the best in swimwear and resort fashions. Also included in the package is a complimentary bottle of Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut to enjoy poolside or in the Lobby.

 

In the evenings, the resort’s renowned Lobby Bar is the place to see and be seen, hosting the Brazilia Party, featuring international Brazilian artist Deborah Blum and her orchestra alongside Brazilian Carnival dancers; the Clicquot Constellation Party; and Pulsing Salsa Celebration, with famous international salsa orchestra Puerto Rican Power and professional salsa dancers, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening, respectively.  Music for the evening soirees will be provided by DJ Robles; DJ Leoni, resident DJ of the Latin Quarter in Universal Studios; DJ Mara, an accomplished Puerto Rican female EDM artist; and DVJ KING ARTHUR, resident DJ of the weekly television show Adrenalina Sin Frenos (ASF) on Univision Puerto Rico.

 

To enhance the culinary experience even further, the Clicquot Cave Priveè Grand Tasting and Tapas Dinner on Sunday evening is available as an upgrade to the resort package. Tapas will be confectioned by Chef Lapeyre and Francois Hautekeur, official winemaker of Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, will narrate a tasting of select Veuve Clicquot vintages.

Israel Calderon to Lead the Culinary Team at San Juan’s Iconic Hotel

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – March 5, 2013 - El San Juan Resort & Casino announces the appointment of Israel Calderon as executive chef. An award-winning chef, Calderon will oversee the resort’s culinary operation including the property managed restaurants - La Terraza, Acquaire, and Encanto Beach Club & Grill, the Lobby Bars, room service, catering and special events, always ensuring a consistent culinary experience for guests and diners.

Calderon brings more than 20 years of experience to his position at El San Juan Resort & Casino. Since the ’90s, Calderon has built much of his reputation by working at renowned hotels such as Hilton Trinidad & Conference Centre – executive chef; The San Juan Water & Beach Club – executive chef; Mundo Imperial – executive chef; Sheraton Old San Juan – executive chef; Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach– executive chef; Chicago Hilton and Towers – executive sous chef; and Caribe Hilton – executive cous chef.

Calderon has also had the opportunity to cook for many personalities, celebrities and dignitaries such as former U.S. President Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Denzel Washington, Richard Branson, Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, and India’s High Commissioner in Trinidad, Mr. Chandradath Singh. One of Calderon’s most memorable moments in his career was when he was invited to the White House by U.S. President Barrack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama for the launch of Chefs Move to School. Chefs Move to School is a program dedicated to solving childhood obesity within a generation and is an integral part of First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” initiative.

With a style that can be described as both innovative and classic, Chef Calderon demonstrates a true passion for cooking and creating extraordinary dishes with simple ingredients. He takes great pride in the presentation of his creations and in using top quality products.

Calderon has studied at the Instituto de Educacion Universal in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y., and the Culinary Business Academy in Albuquerque, N.M., as well as completed programs in Italy, France and Switzerland. Calderon is a “Certified Executive Chef” (CEC) and “Certified Culinary Administrator” (CCA) by the American Culinary Federation (ACF), the authority on cooking in America since 1929 and the largest professional chefs’ organization in North America.

Calderon is an active member of the American Culinary Federation (ACF), Chef and Child Organization and the World Association of Chefs Societies.
