Noche de San Juan
Noche de San Juan, a never-ending tradition
What is summer like in Puerto Rico?
Vibrant, unique, exciting, adventurous, unforgettable…are some of the words that people may use to describe it.
It is no secret that in the Island of Enchantment, people always seek to celebrate milestone events in the most remarkable ways. However, there is one special day that stands out from all the rest. Puerto Ricans refer to it as “Noche De San Juan,” also known as the most extraordinary summer tradition in the entire island.
Every June 23, Puerto Ricans and tourists alike celebrate Noche de San Juan, an eve of a feast for Saint John, the Baptist's birth. Unlike other festivities, this vibrant celebration marks a holiday spent at the beach, just two days after the summer solstice. The tradition says that at the stroke of midnight, people should take at least three backward plunges. Although some, do even seven or twelves dives. The main purpose of this ritual is for people to remove all negative thoughts and energies from their lives.
Noche de San Juan is by far, one of the busiest beach days in Puerto Rico. People like to start the marvelous celebration early in the day, while enjoying refreshing cocktails and dancing endlessly. Moreover, Noche de San Juan is also one of the best beach and pool days to surround yourself with family and friends, and reconnect with loved ones to create infinite memories.
To celebrate this iconic tradition, Fairmont El San Juan Hotel has designed special activities for their guests, which will feature sensational water adventures, live entertainment at The Lobby, luxury poolside and private cabanas.
On Friday, June 23rd, from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., enjoy a special twist on Noche de San Juan, Puerto Rico’s most Extraordinary Summer Tradition, featuring a luxurious cabanas, handcrafted cocktails, and live music at El San Juan Beach Club.
